Blackberry Molasses – Mista

If you watch you will notice the lead singer of Mista is who we now know as Bobby Valentino. I think if he stayed in this Anthony Hamilton-esque lane he would have more longevity in his career. Songs like this are timeless. “Beep, Beep, Beep”? not quite.

Uncle Phil

Music Mondays:Uncle Charlie

Charlie Wilson’s new album, “Uncle Charlie” drops tomorrow. You can cop in stores nationwide or on itunes. Hopefully everyone is aware of the musical genius that is this man. He’s the reason dudes like R.Kelly even exist. From his days with The Gap Band to the newer material. “Supa Sexy” with Jamie Foxx and “There Goes My Baby” are two of my favorite joints from Charlie recently and they’re both on the album.

"Bet Your Girl Would Love This…

Could You Play It For Her?”-Rich Hil

The Famous Firm kicked off our 09′ campaign by releasing Rich Hil’s “The Lonely Limo” project to the public this week. Rich is in his own lane musically and that’s always a plus. The whole album reminds me of one my favorite songs from the year 1999, Everlasts “What It’s Like”. You’ll dig it, trust me. Sickamore is the Executive Producer on the project.

Phellito’s Way:This Christmas

Disclaimer:This Picture Is From Last Year Christmas….and yes that’s a pillow under there, was trynna get a laugh out of my little cousin.
“Never sold millions but f*ck it I’m here to save the babies”-AZ

Anyway I don’t know how it is where you’re at but it doesn’t feel much like Christmas around here. The weather and the current state of the economy being huge reasons why. Have no fear, Phella Clause is here to remedy that.

Favorite Christmas Songs:

Santa Baby – Eartha Kitt

This Christmas by Donny Hathaway
Silent Night by Boyz II Men
Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt
Jingle Bell Rock by (sorry I don’t know their name) off the Home Alone Soundtrack

Favorite Christmas Movies:

Home Alone 1&2
This Christmas
To Grandmothers House We Go (Yea I said it, sue me)

Favorite Christmas Themed Show:

I like all of them. “Full House”, “Family Matters”, “Fresh Prince” etc…but the best had to be this “Martin” episode. Hahaaa @ “Baby this must be the southside of Bethlehem”

Favorite Gift:
Can’t really think of one in particular. I’ve never been too big on presents. Probably some bike or something.

Favorite Memories:
Getting off school. Eating good food and watching movies. Back before global warming when it used to snow and we would be outside in the snow from morning til late at night. Just the overall festiveness and atmosphere. Me and my brother ruining the surprise every year when we were little by ripping the gifts open waaaaaaaaaay before Christmas. Spent one Christmas in London when I was like 7 or 8 years old and had the best time ever. And lastly, going to Macy’s in New York on Christmas Eve was crazy….CHRISTMAS TIME INSANITY!!!!!!!!!

Least Favorite Memory:
Sneaking in the closet when I was 10 to try and figure what was inside the gift wraps. I found this nicely wrapped CD and automatically assumed it was a game for Playstation. I ran around the crib jumping and celebrating. Didn’t sleep that night in anticipation of opening up my new game. Woke up the next morning and it wasn’t even for me. It was some nonsense musical cd for someone else…smh.

This Years Wish:

I got everything I want and need. Only thing missing is Keyshia Cole or someone that posseses similar qualities to her. We’ll see how it goes.

Sidenote #1:Shout to DJ Heat of DC Mumbo Sauce/WPGC 95.5. She was the first influential person to support my music way back before she had a blog or was on Tiggers show. Continues to show love and it’s much appreciated.

Sidenote #2:Seven Pounds comes out on Friday

Music Mondays:Throwbacks

Yo I really looooooove finding my old stuff. Since it’s Music Monday I’ve just been rummaging through the old records (mp3 files) and finding stuff I forgot all about. Like this freestyle on Kanye’s “Family Business”. I knew so little about cadence and all that other technical jargon. All I had was rhymes and a passion to get them out regardless of who would listen/care. It was more so poetry just with a beat to add to the ambiance.

Speaking of early rhymes and Kanye West. Don’t know if anyone is up on his mixtape stuff before he blew up (Around 2003). He had some good stuff. I can’t even find the mp3′s anymore..had to youtube this for ya’ll. “I ain’t messing with them girls no more……this week”

Bump and Grind (Remix) – R Kelly
And last but not least. This R.Kelly remix of Bump N Grind is one of the most slept on (punt intended) slow jams of all time.

2 Much Black+2 Much Love=4 Ever

*Sidenote-What happened to that kid sitting behind Jigga? Dude must have tried to hard to get an autograph and security got busy on him.

R.O.C

I can never get tired of old Roc-a-fella videos, stories, freestyles..whatever. These guys ruled the world at one point.

R.I.P. To TRL

Goodbye to another great show that influenced most of us coming up. MTV put Total Request Live to bed for good today. I’m starting to wonder what’s left to launch new talent????? I’ll admit I haven’t watched too much in the last 3 years or so but I was an addict during the Carson Daly era. That was when Eminem first started poppin.

People like Destinys Child, J.Lo/Ja Rule, Hardknock Life era Jay-Z, and Puff post-Biggie owe a great deal of their success to TRL.

I think TRL is what really started branding artsist as more than just musicians. Prior to TRL I would just watch videos and know that the person made music. The TRL VJ’s would always ask personal questions that really got into who they were outside of the music.

Another thing TRL did for me was introduce me to pop culture as we know it now. In my area it was never cool to listen to pop music until TRL. They made it acceptable to listen to Pink, Limp Bizkit, Britney Spears and those types of acts.

One of my favorite moments I remember off top is when Eminem came on and almost started crying. In his book he said that was the first time that stardom really hit him and he just couldn’t hold it in.

Another one is when Jay-Z and Beyonce performed Bonnie And Clyde for the first time.

Diddy holds the record for being on the show the most. 38 times. No one can question the mans desire for camera time.

More Highlights I just Remembered: When Ludacris first came on the scene with “Whats Your Fantasy”…When Nelly used to have a hit song/video every month….When 50 first came through with “In Da Club”

GREAT GREAT GREAT show.
