Kicking It

I have a serious love/hate relationship with social networking (mostly hate) but I file it under ‘Necessary Evil’. I must admit though, there are some bright spots every now and then and one of them happened yesterday.  I was wrapping up my work day around 2pm and myself and my boy Zoe were looking for something to do. Well, he was; I’m just naturally entertained 24/7. But I was game for some fun. Joe Budden posted on his Twitter that he wanted to play kickball and anyone in the area that wanted to play should come through. He posted the address a few minutes later and it turned out the park wasn’t far from where I live in New Jersey so we decided to go.

We got to the park at about 4pm with no expectations at all; weren’t even sure if it was real or just a joke. Either way, I was there ready to destroy whoever stepped in my kickball path. Zoe plays basketball professionally so he was ready to compete too. As we pulled up, we saw Joe and an army of fans dangling from his arm like the kickball Rocky. We knew it was on.

My team ended up losing both games so I’ll skip the play by play. What I will say is that losing aside, it was fun. I lost sight of the fact that I was playing kickball. I also lost sight of the fact that I was playing it against one of my top 5 rap artists of all-time. There wasn’t any agenda out there other than some people looking to enjoy themselves on a nice evening. Mission accomplished.

Joe’s current girl is video model Esther Baxter and she was the most surprising aspect of the whole thing. The chick is BAD!!!!!! Good looking females are a dime a dozen but she is BAD!!!!! Phyiscally of course, but also surprisingly intelligent and highly competitive. She treated kickball like Kobe is going to treat tomorrow night’s game against Phoenix. I can safely say she went from “the broad from the Freak A Leak video” to a woman that I respect now.

There’s talk of making it an ongoing thing; in anticipation of that, I’ll be at my local park practicing until further notice.

I Like These People: The Smiths

I like these people. It’s no secret that I’m one of the biggest Will Smith fans/students on the planet. I think the guy is one of our greats and as far as I can see, he has a great family life to match. I’ve always seen his wife Jada as the ultimate ‘hold you down chick’; the type that will cuss you out and tell you she loves you in the same breath. We all need those.

I’m yet to watch this interview but I’m sure it’s worth the time. Enjoy.

Thanks…..

It’s been less than 72 hours since we made my ‘Winter Wonderland’ project available online and the response has been nothing short of remarkable. Between texts, phone calls, emails, Twitter and Facebook, and face to face conversations, the reaction has far exceeded my expectations. I’m not much of a numbers person; I tend to judge success based on feel and I feel good about the response. As a creative person all I do is live life and try to find an entertaining way to talk about it in hopes that it will reach someone somewhere and possibly entertain them also. When people say they’ve been reached and entertained, my job is done….the only thing left is to do it better next time.

I even had a nice celebration last night at Park At 14th in DC thanks to my friend and business partner Kunle Oki of SKC.

One of my old songs I said “I do it; with no pen – no pad, no friends – no fans, no Benz – no Jag.” I stand corrected. I do have friends and I do have fans. And I’m thankful for all of you. Even those that don’t fit in either category.

Deeper Than Blogs

It’s been awhile since I endorsed anything on here but it’s probably time to do so. Recently I’ve been meeting and rediscovering so many people that are about their business, or even better, about their creativity…sometimes both. It’s only right that I share in hopes that you will see what I see in them.

I’ll admit my internet time these days isn’t what it once was but I’m trying to get back in the habit of checking out at least 10 websites per night. These will probably the ones I go to.

Fresco (I think Fresco is like 14 or 19. Whatever age, he’s a great kid and you’re bound to be entertained if you’re around him or visit his website.)

Kunle & SKC (I met Kunle at Howard University homecoming about 6 months and since then we’ve become like the modern day Rat Pack (with just two members). I’m not sure who’s Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra or Sammy Davis but we have a lot of similarities in how we approach life and business. His Spoilt Kid Company brand is on the rise and that’s another reason you should visit his site.)

Pristina (My homie from a distance. Never met in person but just an overall fly chick that I’ve known of through the blogosphere for about a year or more now. She’s Nigerian, she’s artsy, and she has a foul mouth. What other reasons do you need?.)

Belle (Another person that I know only through the blogosphere but feel like I really know. Just take a gander at her last few posts and you’ll understand. Honest, creative, believer in “Loving.Living.LIFE”…and Bella rhymes with Phella.)

Rap Radar (This is a bit of a mainstream addition to the list but it’s cool. We underworld people always have a disdain for all things mainstream but sometimes they’re not so bad. RapRadar keeps me current. They do what I wanted Da Fam Ink till I discovered just how time consuming it is to report new news at such a high velocity.

Da Fam Ink (When Chris or Nisarg decide to ever post something it’s usually pretty good.)

NerdAtTheCoolTable (I’ve always kept up with Nerd At Cool Table for about two years now. Very funny and cool person. Knows a lot about hip-hop and sports too. I can get with that.)

CandiedJamz (Me and Jamz are like soulmates that will never be together because we can’t get along for more than a month at a time. Mainly because we’re both born on the same day (August 9th). Can’t put two lions in a cage for too long and expect peace. Nevertheless, check her website out.

Candice Nicole (Candice is known as THE PR person to go to in the DC area. Known her personally for about two years now and although we haven’t worked on anything directly, I’ve been to a lot of her events and she’s been at some of mine. Very fun and driven young lady so yeah, get some Candy in your life.)

TalkOfDC (If you’re where I am or visit the DMV often then you should probably keep up with them. Just last night I was at a Talk Of DC event and I’m still not fully recovered (in a good way). Shout out to Yodit (the female Diddy) and all her people.)

If you have something going on, whatever it is, let me know and I’ll check it out. I live to discover new anything.

www.kanyewest.com

Brand new look and new style website for Kanye. Kind of makes me want to give this a little shake up but it’s cool. We got bigger brocoli to steam (ha! like the veggie reference?) Anyway, www.kanyewest.com

I’ll Let My (Unofficial) Big Brother Tell It…Part 2

My homie is on a roll these days. He speaks, people listen, most criticize, I sit back and smile because I feel 100% the same. I’ve idolized a lot of people in my day but no one quite captures my emotions the way Mr.West does. Read up.

LOST

lost
Thanks to Netflix I recently discovered the tv show “Lost”. It’s probably one of the greatest things I’ve stumbled into this year. The amount of detail and precision with which the characters lives are unveiled is something to behold. There’s so much backstory and so many subplots that you can’t help but tune in episode after episode. No human emotion goes untouched. The show definitely isn’t for the faint of heart.

Luckily for me I don’t have to face the suspense that TV viewers must have had to deal with. Since I’m catching on 5 years late, I can watch an entire season in 3 days which is what I did last week. 25 full episodes in 3 days and it was worth every minute.
