Better Days Video

Directed by Fresco

“Thanks for rocking with Da Fam Inc and myself, Phella, this year. 2010 has been a heck of a run for us. 2011 promises much better things and that’s kind of what inspired this song and video. The video, directed by Fresco, shows a recap of monumental moments and influential people I dealt with this past year, and gives a small glimpse at the future for me as an artist and a businessman. I look forward to it.

Thanks to my manager Kunle (sKC) for the constant perspective, Da Fam team/staff (past and present) 4 everything, J.Rob (Hard Hitterz Inc) for producing my most succesful song to date, Yodit Gebreyes (Talk Of DC) for allowing me to showcase myself and my products to my hometown twice this year, DJ Heat (WPGC 95.5/DC Mumbo Sauce) for support of the music, Fresco (FNM Shot) for capturing a lot of the moments, Mr. Russell Ackaway (RESPECT) for featuring me on his TV show, Brad Hicks (Blonde Collective) for jumping on board as a clothing sponsor, the readers/commenters of my personal website (www.iamphella.com), and everyone else….thanking you all individually would extend this already long email further but make no mistake; YOU made things better!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year. Never stop striving 4 better.”

Spur-It

Spirit – The vital principle or animating force within living beings.
Spur – Incite or stimulate

If you ever feel yourself losing your spirit — that vital thing that we all need as human beings to be able to enjoy life, do whatever it takes to spur it back into action. For me it’s music. If there’s good music around, my spirits are high. High spirits usually lead to things going your way.

Kicking It

I have a serious love/hate relationship with social networking (mostly hate) but I file it under ‘Necessary Evil’. I must admit though, there are some bright spots every now and then and one of them happened yesterday.  I was wrapping up my work day around 2pm and myself and my boy Zoe were looking for something to do. Well, he was; I’m just naturally entertained 24/7. But I was game for some fun. Joe Budden posted on his Twitter that he wanted to play kickball and anyone in the area that wanted to play should come through. He posted the address a few minutes later and it turned out the park wasn’t far from where I live in New Jersey so we decided to go.

We got to the park at about 4pm with no expectations at all; weren’t even sure if it was real or just a joke. Either way, I was there ready to destroy whoever stepped in my kickball path. Zoe plays basketball professionally so he was ready to compete too. As we pulled up, we saw Joe and an army of fans dangling from his arm like the kickball Rocky. We knew it was on.

My team ended up losing both games so I’ll skip the play by play. What I will say is that losing aside, it was fun. I lost sight of the fact that I was playing kickball. I also lost sight of the fact that I was playing it against one of my top 5 rap artists of all-time. There wasn’t any agenda out there other than some people looking to enjoy themselves on a nice evening. Mission accomplished.

Joe’s current girl is video model Esther Baxter and she was the most surprising aspect of the whole thing. The chick is BAD!!!!!! Good looking females are a dime a dozen but she is BAD!!!!! Phyiscally of course, but also surprisingly intelligent and highly competitive. She treated kickball like Kobe is going to treat tomorrow night’s game against Phoenix. I can safely say she went from “the broad from the Freak A Leak video” to a woman that I respect now.

There’s talk of making it an ongoing thing; in anticipation of that, I’ll be at my local park practicing until further notice.

The Sun Always Shines Eventually…

Sidebar: I might be the king of pointless videos…I got millions of em. I just like capturing my life with audio, video and photos. Occasionally when I share them someone will write me saying it made them laugh or think so that’s an added bonus. It’s the 2010 version of keeping a journal I guess. I get to look back months later and ask myself “dawg was I on that?”.
