Infatuation vs The Real Deal

Infatuation. I define that word simply as a strong feeling of lust we get before logic is applied. You can be infatuated with a $1000 jacket until you apply logic and realize that your rent needs to be paid. You can be infatuated with a young lady and think you want to marry her until you apply logic and realize she’s not quite the one. You can be infatuated with a certain lifestyle until you suddenly realize that you’re capable of much better.

Basically I’m learning not to act on infatuations. The only way to distinguish infatuation from the real deal is to give it time. Allow time for that logic to seep in. If you can’t apply logic then that means you truly love that thing or person, or you truly should be living that lifestyle. True feelings are unshakable. Logic can no longer be applied. This is how you know you’ve made that right song, met that right girl, found that right city to live in, so on and so forth.

So I Was Thinking That And Realized That….

Life is great.

Music is a big part of why it’s great.

Let It Go
Complaining about the record industry, mainstream music, cd sales etc is old and should give way to enjoying the great records that are put out and the ability of mainstream music to connect with members of society that don’t always want to think and get lost in a lyrical maze…sometimes all I want is some hard drums and lyrics as simple as “she got a donk”…other times want Lupe’s “Dumb It Down”.

Hovi Hov
Jay-Z=The First Person to chase the cool and catch it. That man would bribe a cop if he knew it would earn him more cool points. “They love you Jigga, they love you jigga….Hova Hova Hova”.

The Coolest-Elect
Barack Obama=The first cool person to be equally embraced by the anti-cool. Usually cool people are resented by those who force themselves to be outcasts and not go with the status quo…in Baracks case, it seems he’s drawn in the hip as well as the not so hip. After all, the only thing that separates the two groups is ones ability to play on public perception.

I Can’t Do The Homie

You may not want to read this next one if you subscribe to MOB/don’t love these hoes/I’ll rather bump chest in the vip with my homies…or any of those other groups that no love gettas subscribe to.

But I Will Congratulate The Ladies
I’m starting to agree that women are one of the greatest gifts we have in this world. Not just for the obvious reasons but there’s something about the hard working and intelligent ones with the right mixture of confidence and humility. It almost erases the sins of their counterparts that drove most of my brothers to do the homie.

Chill
Jennifer Hudsons sister is not doing a good job of defusing peoples suspicions of her. Myspace pics of celebration ain’t really the way to go two weeks after your whole family was offed by your ex-boyfriend.

Chill pt 2
Hope I don’t offend anyone but Club Promoters=The New Version Of Myspace Rappers. Everyone does it and they’re mad annoying.
This doesnt apply to actual artists that use myspace as a platform to reach fans and potential fans. Also doesn’t apply to club promoters who actually work hard and believe in the establishment they’re promoting.
If you rap and harrass folks on myspace as a get rich/famous quick scheme then kill yourself. If you promote some rich mans club who doesn’t pay you a dollar just so you can pick up desperate teenage girls that want VIP access, join the myspace rapper and kill yourself too.

New Motown
I’ve been very quiet recently as for as my personal music goes. All for good reason, trust me. I’m working harder than ever on something I’ve been planning since I was young. The New Motown is myself along with a ton of RnB singers, a few rappers, couple of producers and live bands whose purpose in life is to make the best possible music we can make. Sales, radio play, commercial opportunities are welcome but not mandatory. The only thing mandatory is a commitment to making hits and classic music……Stay tuned.

Trynna Advance My Quotes
I keep a bunch of quotes in my phone from movies, books, songs, etc. Stumbled on to this one yesterday:
“Excessively self-conscious people are condemned to permanent exclusion from enjoyment”

Translation:Be yourself, be free, forget what anyone thinks, enjoy life.

Happy Halloween + Happy New Years Eve

Trick Or Treat
Happy Halloween to everyone out there (the above pic is the most orange I could find for you on such short notice). I’ve never been much of a halloween guy (never went trick or treating….ever). Might do it when I have kids.

Under The Weather Phella
*I was running around crazy this week with no jacket on plus worked out in the cold once. Those horrible choices led to the inevitable-a semi flu. So now I’m just in the crib going insane.
*I’ve listened to my entire playlist twice.
*Wrote pre-disses to rappers who I think might try to get at me when I “get on”, whatever that means.
*I’m reading emails and myspace messages from like April and wondering to myself why I said certain things.
*Speaking of why I said certain things, in my Nyquiled state last night I went on facebook and asked for a date from any woman in DC/MD/VA and some parts of West Virginia…..no one responded. So now I’m beefing with all my female facebook friends.
*Did a photoshoot yesterday…I hate those but its necessary for the “14 Month Year”. Took about two hours and the photographer had me out in the cold which didn’t help my semi flu at all.

14 Month Year
I decided not to wait for January 1 to make wholesale changes. So Novemeber 1st will be when my New Year begins. I’m turning everything up. Music, Talent Repping, Blogging, Wifey Search (phell o l) and everything else.

Not The Life Of The Party
The Party Life is calling me, like literally. My phone is ringing crazy with excited voices on the other end screaming “nigga we bout to get it poppin tonite” and “yo where we going for Halloween yo?”. Sorry folks, got a 14 month New Year to plan.

p.s. Stale candy givers should be thrown in jail.
p.s. I don’t have candy kids, so please let the old man sleep.
p.s. Do they still show the Charlie Brown Halloween Special?
p.s. The Halloween Episodes of Family Matters>The Halloween Episodes of Fresh Prince

Phellito’s Way:Good Friday

Good Morning America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope everyone is feeling great out there. If you’re a weekend fan? It’s the weekend. If you’re a cold weather fan? It’s cold. If you’re a warm weather fan? It’s warm. If you like music? There’s tons of great music to listen to. There’s basketball on TV again, football, baseball playoffs. There’s books etc and etc.

Speaking of things that occupy your time, the cd is 70% done and I’m excited as I’ve been in years. No first week numbers, no release party, none of that. I’m just excited to have a project that I put my all into and that I know people will enjoy.

The workout/training is 70% done (you can never really be done working out). After Nov 15th I’m going to resume regular routine as opposed to this mad man stuff I’ve been on lately.

Speaking of being on stuff lately. The future Mrs.Phella is -70% found. No prospects, no potentials, nothing. Everything fell apart (mostly because of me). I’m starting from scratch.

Howard Homecoming is in the air and ole Phelly will be around for most of it. Hope to see some of you out there.

Tomorrow is Cheesecake Saturdays…”this is what ya’ll all been waiting for ain’t it?”

Phellito’s Way Part 1

I’m not really in the car and its not really afternoon. That’s the best “thinking” picture I could find of myself. It’s Thursday night and its a slow night so I figured I’d share some thoughts.

1. Why do we add friends on social networking sites (myspace, facebook etc) and never interact with them?

Maybe you think they look good but don’t wanna risk going in so you add them hoping they hit you up? Maybe it’s someone you know and you just wanna keep tabs on their life? Maybe you just want more friends than everyone else? Talk to me people. For me I rarely add people but when I do it’s because I intend on establishing some sort of relationship with them…..yes Sarah from Idaho, that’s why I added you.

2. Is it just me or did the Barack Obama hype die down dramatically?

I know no one is voting right now and there haven’t been any debates recently but it still feels funny. I guess the Yes We Can high we were on cooled off a bit, but I’m about ready to spark up again…who’s with me?

3. Am I the only one that can text/chat/email someone for hours on end but only sustain a phone convo with them for 1 minute?

That’s not the way it should be, I’m almost certain, but like the 2 Pac song says-”thats just the way it is, things will never be the same”. I think its because on the phone you’re forced to keep the convo going in order to avoid akward silence. Text/chat/email you can get your madden on in between messages, go to the gym, get some food and the convo will still be there waiting for you because they’re probably doing the same things.

It’s gotten to the point where people think they’ve “found the one” when they can maintain a conversation with someone of the opposite sex for longer than 5 mins. I’m like thats not “the one”, that’s just what used to happen prior to 2002 or whenever the internet got fast.

4. Do friends still exist? Or do we just have people who share common goals and feel they stand a better chance of acheiving them with you than without you?

This one bothers me. I feel like I haven’t had a true friend since I was like 8 or 9.People are rough these days man. Especially in the “industry”. It’s hard to tell who is who and what’s what.

5. If you met her at the club, can she still be considered wifey material?

I have to LOL at this one because it’s been the cause of many debates. Girls usually say “of course she’s wifey material, aint nothing wrong with clubbing, what yo mama aint never club before?”…..fellas usually say “hell nah she aint wifey material, that broad was shaking her thing all over the floor and got the nerve to want me to wife her, man I swear these scandalous broads”. I won’t even give my take on this but I’ll just say the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

6. I’m a quote addict, junkie, fiend.

Please send any good ones you have to phella@thefamousfirm.com or post here for the world to see. It can be from a book (2 points) , a movie (1 point) , a song (1 point) , or one that you made up (5 points).

7. Orientation to Graduation

For those that don’t know, I’m a proud college dropout (shoutout to George Mason University). I’ve learned so much from the time I went to college orientation (June 2005) to the time I wouldve been graduating (May 2009). That’s four whole years of knowledge and experience. I think even if you never walk across a stage and move your tassle to the left or right or whatever it is, you can still use those first 4 post high school years to shape who you’ll be for the rest of your life.

8. Music Music Music

Despite the fact that I’m a rapper I rarely listen to rap music. Anita Baker, Prince, T-Pain, and Lauryn Hill have dominated my playlist recently. There’s a certain authenticity that RnB has that lacks in most rap music with the exception of the T.I’s, Jay-Z’s, Kanye’s and Lupe’s. A few others too. Soulja Boy is dope too, his music is him and I can appreciate that.

I’m gone for now unless I think of more stuff. Stay tuned for more of Phellito’s Way. I think that sounded wack but whatever, I’m tired.
