I Think I Can Shoulder It
December 15th, 2009I wasn’t blogging or updating this website back in September but here’s what happened. I was down in Atlanta with my cousins having a good time when suddenly a drunk driver collided with us going about 60 mph. It was my first ever car crash. The result was all of us being taken via ambulance to the hospital. I ended up flying back home the following day after being discharged and for the next 3 months I’ve been bounced back and forth from therapist to doctor trying to figure out what the problem is.
Basically when we were hit our car flew from the lane we were in to the side of the road. While this was happening my elbow went into the glass window - I was rear passenger seat by the way. That impact kind of dislodged my shoulder and so the story goes. Is it a tear? dislocation? nothing? Only heaven knows. I just know I’ve had pain in my shoulder ever since and I continue to be physically active which probably doesn’t help but I can’t put my life on hold for three months. The girl at the MRI place last week said I was “too muscular” to get clear results. I thought to myself “if I wanted to be flirted with I could have gone to the grocery store, just tell me what’s BROKEN.”
“What Does That Even Mean?”
July 13th, 2009After being dogged 5-0, some snot nose punk tried to imply that Kobe would get waxed if he went to LeBrons camp. Black Mamba simply took a chuckle and replied “what does that even mean?”. He then said “I’ll tell you one thing, you aint dunking on me at my camp”, in reference to LeBron getting teabagged at his camp last week by some kid.
“This Is How We Do It”
June 18th, 2009Haha this is the best commercial ever. Nike might either be ruining LeBron’s psyche or turning him into the next Kobe with these commercials. If he really is a champion at heart, it will make him better. If he is just another above average guy, then it won’t.
Taken from a RealTalkNY commenter:
“That’s what happens when you try to be a rapper….and throwing up jay-z signs in games…no rings..hehe. While you’re throwing up dynasty signs, and at clubs and dinners with Jay-Z…you know what Kobe is doing…lol Working on his jump shot and fade aways…to sink’em in your face Lechoke!!”
That’s kinda harsh but it’s the truth. No one is saying don’t party but to be the best you gotta put in the best work.
I love LeBron though. Maybe he doesn’t want to be the best and that’s just the public’s expectation for him. Maybe he’s content just being “one of the best”.
“Nobody Do That Where We Grew At”
June 9th, 2009Long time New York Knick fan Diddy dresses in Laker attire. Once more attaching himself to the flavor of the moment for publicity purposes.
Jay-Z does his part in bringing real n*gga sh!t back. Performs Death Of Autotune for the fans at Summer Jam.
Internet Thugs type “Free Max B” as their mom brings them an ice cold lemonade to cool them down.
I sit and wonder if there’s any hope out there for us.
I kind of like this positive/negative post thing I got going. I think that’s going to be the rotation from now. One positive post followed by one “negative” post. I put negative in quotations because technically it’s all positive. I don’t just rant for ranting sake, I do it because I care and I believe there’s a certain group of people out there who care like I do but don’t know how to voice it. I know if Pac was alive he would be the #1 blogger in the world. He would write pages and pages of poems and articles about our current state of affairs. God knows there’s a lot to say.
I think the closest we have to a Tupac these days is Jay-Z. The man gets it. If you get past the Rolls Royces, the big money talk, and the high yellow diva girlfriend, you’ll see that dude is a revolutionary. One of the few we have in Hip-Hop. We live in a day and age where P Diddy logs on Twitter begging for followers then gets into a war with a young guy who simply stated that people should unfollow Diddy and his self promoting ways.
While Diddy used bible quotes to campaign for Twitter supremacy, his more socially aware counterpart was crafting “Death Of Autotune”. I’m not saying Jay is our savior but at least when he says something people listen. And to his credit, he’s used the last 4 or 5 years to say things we need to hear. This new generation of kids desperately need to hear and pay attention to “Falling”, “Success”, “D.O.A”, “Grammy Family Freestyle” etc…
Part of why I’ve abondoned Tweeting is that I realize more and more that we live in a generation of talkers. Everyone has a movement but never actually moves. Everyone wants change but never actually changes. I’m assuming you have a Twitter account; log on right now and scroll through your timeline. You’ll see the mockery for yourself.
Today I logged on for a brief minute only to see people screaming “Free Max B” all over the place. Max B is a rapper who with the assistance of his girlfriend had two guys robbed and killed. Today he was convicted and sentenced. I hate to see anyone go to jail and have their freedom stripped away. I hate that two guys who were making money were murdered. I hate the United States “justice” system. But never will I scream “Free” anyone. I was always taught that as men we make the decisions we make and we live with the outcome. Plain and simple.
If my closest friend commited a crime today and was sentenced, I won’t scream “Free” him. Not unless he was wrongfully accused. I’ll be saddened, but I won’t scream for him to be free’d. I think it just exposes the cornyness and fake gangsta era we live in. If these people really care about Max so much, how about you start getting money together to help his family. How about you write him a letter in jail. If you really believe so much that he should be free, write to someone and see about getting him a re-trial. No? You won’t do that though. You’d rather just type “Free Max B” on your Twitter so you can be associated with today’s hottest news.
This is more than Diddy’s shameless self promotion and culture raping, Jay-Z and Pac’s revolutionary ways, fake thugs and gangstas, and online frauds. It’s really about the elephant in the room. The fact that our culture is just losing in more ways than we can count and nobody seems to want to say anything. Everyone’s just sitting back and letting it happen. Some are even contributing to it.
It would be wrong of me to act like it’s all bad. There’s a lot of great writers, talented artists, smart and hard working people out there. Far too often though they are drowned out by the idiocy that goes on in our society. Not for long though. Just like Autotune was killed this past weekend, very soon all the people who are a detriment to our culture will have to pay. Run for cover. And if you’re real, you have not a thing to worry about.
“Can’t Knock The Hustle”-Jay-Z
June 8th, 2009

The apartments I live in is pretty much broken up into two sections. There’s “front street” which is relatively well lit and people are usually coming and going. The chance of something happening to you or your car there is litte.
Then you have “death valley” which is about 50 feet away from “front street” but a whole different world. That’s where all the smoking, drinking, dealing, whoring and such goes on. Very dark parking lot and anyone there late at night is pretty much up to no good.
Recently the management said we’re only allowed to park one car on “front street”; why? I don’t know. So rather than park my darling Chevy in “death valley” I had planned to move her to my friends crib Saturday. Unfortunately that day ended up being a real busy one for me so I took my chances with “death valley” for a night. Right on cue the above happened.
Some guys broke in and tried to get my dvd player. I wasn’t even upset. I actually applaud their courtesy. Not only did they not steal my basketball and cds but they also didn’t do too much damage (aside from the window).
If you know me, basketball and music is my life. So leaving my ball and cd’s untouched is something I’ll always be grateful for.
3 summers ago this same car was assaulted in Baltimore while me and my friends were slanging fake Bape hoodies in the flea market. They took my DVD player and in the process damaged my entire dashboard and ignition. Now that one HURT!!!!. This one right here, lightwork.
They didn’t even try to take the car itself, all they wanted was the Kenwood so clearly it was just somebody trynna come up on a little spare change. Can’t knock the hustle.
*Sidenote: Ironic that I saw this about 3 mins after posting my “God Keeps Blessing Me” post right? If I wasn’t a clear thinker I would get upset and say “aww man maybe I’m not so blessed after all”. Believe me, for all I’ve gained recently, losing a small car window is more than a fair trade. The post below still stands.
“I’m Gonna Find Another You”-John Mayer
June 5th, 2009I keep thinking I’m over Keyshia but everytime I get on the internet I see new pics of her and this guy….Daniel “Boobie” Gibson. Here are some songs that capture how I feel about this whole situation.
Before I Lay Me Down To Sleep….
May 19th, 2009Self-Pity: Someone close to me was going through an episode earlier on today and I had to give a speech about self-pity and what it can do to us if we succumb to it. It’s probably the worst addiction; worse than cocaine, marijuana, alcohol or anything else you can think of. Once you convince yourself that everything is so bad and nothing will ever go your way, it’s over for you.
I’ll spare everyone the speech but here are some quotes related to the subject (Straight From The BlackBerry Notepad As Usual):
“Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional”
“The secret to being miserable is to have leisure to bother about whether you are happy or not. The cure for it is occupation”
“Self-Pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to it, we can never do anything else in this world”
Unappreciated: I read on J.Cole’s blog where he said he’s under most people’s radar right now and plans on sneaking up on the game. I understand exactly what he means but my goodness!!! If being signed to Jay-Z and getting recognized by most of the world wide web is under radar, I must be submarine right now.
How Do You Survive?: Number 1 question I get asked when I meet new people. Even my own mother asks me from time to time and I honestly don’t know the answer. It’s been that way since middle school. I’ve always just found ways to stay above water and even when I sink it’s usually brief. Not bragging or boasting because Lord knows it’s not easy at times but I’m still standing and that’s all I can ask for. That’s easily the best part about where I grew up; you learn quickly how to survive.
Music: I’ve been listening to The Dream Love Vs Money cd a lot recently. I’ve had it for two months now and it’s like I recently just rediscovered it. The man is a genius.
No Longer A 5 Percenter: First of all, I saw on Kanye West’s blog where he said he only blogs about 5% of what happens to him. Now anyone who’s been reading my blog for the past year knows I’ve been saying that exact same thing since day one. So Ye, I need my royalties. I’m less than a 5 percenter now though. I like to share things after I fully grasp and understand them; that way I don’t steer anybody wrong. I’m currently in a learning process and making a lot of adjustments; won’t be too smart to share things I’m unsure of so bare with me.
Out Of The Public? I: Maybe I’m returning back to my introverted ways but I’ve also decided to make Da Fam Inc. an ‘out of the public eye’ company. Meaning basically I don’t even know if we’ll have a full functioning website or a twitter page or any of that. This whole online stuff is real shaky to me. It allows people/companies/groups to create this ‘big fish in a small pond’ image and mislead people. And if not careful, one can start to buy into the hype and forget that there’s actual work to be done. A lot of the companies I’m studying and emulating are very low key. No one knows who owns them, what their logos look like or none of that. Still they’re extremely successful.
Need A Vacation Not A Fake-ation: I need a real vacation. A real one. The last time I went somewhere and didn’t do anything career oriented was probably back in 2006. 3 years straight and not a single day where I was completely care free and just relaxed.
