I love pushing and challenging myself because it takes your mind off of everything else in life. If you’re pushing yourself to the max (with anything, doesn’t have to be physical), there’s usually no room to stress or worry. It’s called Optimal Activity. So whenever life hands me some funny looking cards, I laugh, say “King Kong Ain’t Sh*t On Me”, then go into these intense days, weeks, sometimes months of training– however long it takes for the problem(s) to get solved.

Excuse the stupid fist pumping music, it’s Jersey.

For the first time in about a month I can honestly say I’m bored. Just listening to Charlie Murphy’s boring comedy and the rain outside isn’t doing it for me right now. Here are some random photos to look at in case you’re as bored as I am.

The above pictures are important because in the background of the first one is a young Phella and young DJ Laser. 10 years ago (the second picture), a young Fabolous and young DJ Clue were getting their small cameo on in a Roc-A-Fella video. Not saying we’re the next Fab and Clue but………….

Above is a photo I just saw on Facebook. It’s from my homie Kunle’s birthday celebration/launch for his Skc brand. I think I look like a butler. Skc is having a nice event next weekend which I’ll be back home for. Hope to see everyone there. Details on their website.

When I’m extremely tired I just keep going and going and doing crazier and crazier things. There I was at 1am the other night attempting to construct a closet….at least it was for a good cause.

My favorite part of my new living place, my magazine shrine. There’s a disproportionate amount of Jay-Z. Partly because he’s the man and partly because I couldn’t find half of my classic magazines when I moved. Soon they’ll all be getting stashed anyway once me and my people start getting mag covers.

View of NYC from Jersey City where I was hanging out last week. It wasn’t the Scarface “the world and everything in it Chico” moment that it looks like. I just took the pic for pic taking sake. I do that a lot then reflect on them later.

Whassup!!!…Like Martin

I’m settled into my new place in Jersey. Gonna start making calls to all my tri-state connects over the next few days. I’m only here to build so if you’re into that sorta thing, don’t be a stranger.

The crib is cool. Not much but it’s mine, from top to bottom. And for that reason I love it. Already I’m seeing signs that I’m a mad man. I assembled all my furniture in record time, went to bed at 3am and was up by 8am to go on a 5 mile run.

If you give a mad man too much room to operate, he’ll either create something genius or seriously injure himself; probably both. Don’t think I’ve created anything just yet but I have injured myself….several times.

It’s funny, things back home has suddenly picked up now that I’ve left so I’ll be poppin in and out later on this month…when you see me you know how to holla.

I think that’s about it. I’m typing fast because I finished my meal at this iHop a while ago and I think they’re starting to suspect I came here just for free internet, not their dry pancakes.

My Next 48 Hours

I know I’m late on the Vibe anniversary issue but I didn’t want to read it while it was cool to do so.

The cd is Playboy Tre’s mixtape he gave me at the show the other night. I’m 3 songs in and thumbs up so far.

The Eminem book is what I’m most excited about. I was about to pay for it and the kid at the counter says “damn $40 for a book? I’ll give it to you for $20″….I say “half price sounds straight to me, here’s $20″….he takes the money and looks to make sure his manager doesn’t see him bagging up a book that wasn’t paid for. He bags it up and sends me on my way. If I was him I would have made me pay the $40 and then just kept that….if you’re going to commit crimes at work, shouldn’t you get the most money you can get? That kid needs to read some of those books as opposed to just stealing from his boss.

Polar Express and Popeye are just for visuals amidst all that reading.

Sweatpants In The Club (Coming In October)

Yep yep. I hope it can be ready for October but we’ll see how it goes. The music is almost done but the business aspect is what takes long. We’re trying to line up some shows and other great things to surround the actual project.

In case you can’t read the back cover-here it is:
“Sweatpants In The Club”. That phrase is somewhat of a joke but there is a very deep meaning behind it. In American culture, especially amongst blacks we view the club as the end all be all of society. It’s where scantily clad women go to find rich men, it’s where men go to find scantily clad women. It’s where teens go to be seen in the outfits they worked all week to purchase. It’s where athletes and musicians go to be seen in their latest rides and fashion. For a sane man to go to a club with sweats on, he is basically saying to everyone that he is so comfortable that he doesn’t need to partake in the fashion show. He’s not saying there’s anything wrong with the fashion show, he’s not even saying that he might not indulge in “Flashing Lights” on occasion. What he is saying is “I’m so comfortable that I can just be me and do what I want and you will accept me for it.”

Sweatpants In The Club is not drinking when all your peers are doing the opposite. Sweatpants In The Club is coming from a family of college graduates and choosing to pursue a career in film or music. Sweatpants In The Club is the pregnant girl that won’t give in to peer pressure to have an abortion. Sweatpants In The Club is when Kriss Kross wore their close backwards or when Jay-Z sampled “Annie” on “Hard Knock Life”. It’s when 50 Cent made a song about robbing the whole entire music industry. Sweatpants In The Club is Barack Obama. Sweatpants In The Club is coming from a crack addict mother and rising above it. It’s anyone who lives above the limitations society has put on us. Anyone who lives by their own rules.

All the songs in this project all reflect this concept in some shape or form. Some songs might appeal to a soccer mom as well as the guy that’s about to rob the liquor store to feed his kids. As a person I’m capable of having a conversation with both people and my music isn’t any different. I hope everyone who hears it enjoys it. All that explanation would mean nothing if the music is terrible. The music isn’t terrible though…in fact it’s great.

www.iamphella.com is at 1000 views for the month which is small time in the blog world but big for me since this is my first official month. We got there with about 7 days to spare too. Thanks to all the active participants like Karim Diane aka Kay, Sean, Sickamore, Bombchell and everyone else. Thanks to everyone who sends in material for me to post on here as well. As The Famous Firm grows and I grow as a person and an artist the future of this site looks promising.

Today I was checking the stats on Realtalkny which started out as a lil ole blog similar to this one a few years ago. They get over 1,000,000 views every single month. That’s dedication holmes. I probably won’t/shouldn’t ever get that much traffic but lets see how it goes.

Phellito’s Way Part 1

I’m not really in the car and its not really afternoon. That’s the best “thinking” picture I could find of myself. It’s Thursday night and its a slow night so I figured I’d share some thoughts.

1. Why do we add friends on social networking sites (myspace, facebook etc) and never interact with them?

Maybe you think they look good but don’t wanna risk going in so you add them hoping they hit you up? Maybe it’s someone you know and you just wanna keep tabs on their life? Maybe you just want more friends than everyone else? Talk to me people. For me I rarely add people but when I do it’s because I intend on establishing some sort of relationship with them…..yes Sarah from Idaho, that’s why I added you.

2. Is it just me or did the Barack Obama hype die down dramatically?

I know no one is voting right now and there haven’t been any debates recently but it still feels funny. I guess the Yes We Can high we were on cooled off a bit, but I’m about ready to spark up again…who’s with me?

3. Am I the only one that can text/chat/email someone for hours on end but only sustain a phone convo with them for 1 minute?

That’s not the way it should be, I’m almost certain, but like the 2 Pac song says-”thats just the way it is, things will never be the same”. I think its because on the phone you’re forced to keep the convo going in order to avoid akward silence. Text/chat/email you can get your madden on in between messages, go to the gym, get some food and the convo will still be there waiting for you because they’re probably doing the same things.

It’s gotten to the point where people think they’ve “found the one” when they can maintain a conversation with someone of the opposite sex for longer than 5 mins. I’m like thats not “the one”, that’s just what used to happen prior to 2002 or whenever the internet got fast.

4. Do friends still exist? Or do we just have people who share common goals and feel they stand a better chance of acheiving them with you than without you?

This one bothers me. I feel like I haven’t had a true friend since I was like 8 or 9.People are rough these days man. Especially in the “industry”. It’s hard to tell who is who and what’s what.

5. If you met her at the club, can she still be considered wifey material?

I have to LOL at this one because it’s been the cause of many debates. Girls usually say “of course she’s wifey material, aint nothing wrong with clubbing, what yo mama aint never club before?”…..fellas usually say “hell nah she aint wifey material, that broad was shaking her thing all over the floor and got the nerve to want me to wife her, man I swear these scandalous broads”. I won’t even give my take on this but I’ll just say the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

6. I’m a quote addict, junkie, fiend.

7. Orientation to Graduation

For those that don’t know, I’m a proud college dropout (shoutout to George Mason University). I’ve learned so much from the time I went to college orientation (June 2005) to the time I wouldve been graduating (May 2009). That’s four whole years of knowledge and experience. I think even if you never walk across a stage and move your tassle to the left or right or whatever it is, you can still use those first 4 post high school years to shape who you’ll be for the rest of your life.

8. Music Music Music

Despite the fact that I’m a rapper I rarely listen to rap music. Anita Baker, Prince, T-Pain, and Lauryn Hill have dominated my playlist recently. There’s a certain authenticity that RnB has that lacks in most rap music with the exception of the T.I’s, Jay-Z’s, Kanye’s and Lupe’s. A few others too. Soulja Boy is dope too, his music is him and I can appreciate that.

I’m gone for now unless I think of more stuff. Stay tuned for more of Phellito’s Way. I think that sounded wack but whatever, I’m tired.
