Milian

I’ve always liked Christina Milian a lot. Number one reason being that she always had this great smile and very bubbly personality that I’m a sucker for… those are probably the most important things I look for. Number two is that she has ties to the Maryland area and that’s where I’m from. And number three is that contrary to popular belief, I think she’s pretty talented too–as an actress and a singer/dancer.

Over time I kind of lost track of what she was up to and she kind of fell off my radar but she’s back with a vengeance and more than likely here to stay as Phellito’s numero uno.

Nicki

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared any of my crushes on here. If you’ve been following since day one then I’m sure you’re well aware how Keyshia Cole and I ended. If not, here you go. After that terrible experience, I decided it was time to focus on women that weren’t in the spotlight. That got me nowhere fast so now I’m back to obsessing over this one particular lady that’s very much in the spotlight. Nicki!!!! When I first met her two years ago, I was just a shy 20 year old guy trying to find his way in this world. I wasn’t ready for her and she sensed it. Her words were “what are you, scared to hug me?”. Well Nicki, I’m no longer shy and no longer scared to hug you. Let’s do this.

All jokes aside though, watching her come up has been amazing. And say what you want about how her body transformed but it’s more than physical with her. She has this confidence that not many can match. She knows what she wants and goes after it. We like that over here.

Bonus: You already know the soundtrack to this affair. “Nikki” by The-Dream.

The story behind this is two fold. The inspiration behind it came from a conversation I had with a great young lady on Saturday. Conversation led to me realizing that sometimes the right people intersect at the wrong time. This person wants this, that person wants that, and a disconnect is inevitable. You gotta be mature enough to know that you’ve played your best game and the win just won’t come. Not because of a lack of effort but because you were playing the wrong game.

From a technical standpoint, Kanye West beats always pull words out of me. Even when I’m not in my “music zone”, I hear a Ye beat and immediately the words pop up in my head. So the day after my conversation I called up my engineer and went in and just said what was on my mind, hoping someone somewhere can relate. Drake absolutely did a great job on this and I just tried to take it back to the days of remixes when you would put a completely different hook and everything.

The visual is just extra.

Enjoy.

“You Just Gotta Keep Trying”

As people with pride, limitations, and resources that aren’t endless, we tend to have a threshold for how far we’re willing to go to get what we want. We all have that point where “enough is enough”. You’ve courted her for a year and she still won’t budge. You’ve applied 6 times, each time with an improvement to your resume and they won’t call back. You’ve done every workout known to man and that last bit of stomach refuses to tuck itself away. So now what, you stop trying?

There are two schools of thought on this. There’s one that says we should all know when to say when. There comes a point you have to be realistic and accept a situation for what it is. Some thing’s just aren’t meant to be. Then there’s the idea that if you want something, you go get it. Do whatever it takes. Expend every single resource. Go till you’re breathless. Throw pride and caution to the wind.

Myself personally, I subscribe to the latter; but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t understand the former. How can Steve pursue Laura for so long and be turned down by her day in day out? How didn’t his little Urkel pride kick in and say “grow a set man”? I guess that’s just how bad he wanted her. He was willing to try for the rest of his life if he had to. That’s TV. In real life, there comes a point where time catches up with us. Finances catch up with us. So many factors kick in that make it very difficult to continue trying. I think that point is called “The Dip” according to author Seth Godin.

“The Dip” is simply about when it’s time to push harder or when it’s time to quit. According to Godin, “winners do quit and quitters do win.”

I think what I’m trying to say is that only you know when you’ve hit a “dip” (the point where it seems it’s time to quit but really what you need to do is push harder) or when you’ve hit a “cul-de-sac” (the point where no matter what you do, there is no progress to be made). Winners are those who can quickly identify “the dip” from “the cul-de-sac” before it’s too late. Life is full of obstacles and roadblocks. If everything we wanted came so easy, we wouldn’t want them; that’s just the way it works. My inclination is that we don’t choose those things which we should pursue relentlessly; they choose us. It’s a feeling thing. Logic will no longer be applicable. You’ll feel like to give up on this thing would be to lose a piece of yourself. Life would no longer be worth living. At that point, you just gotta keep trying.

So Cold

Had a really good last couple of days. Been getting a bit frustrated lately trying to get the mixes of this ‘Winter Wonderland’ project to meet my satisfaction. When I was younger I thought my message and content was so great that quality didn’t matter…..quality matters. It matters a lot actually. It’s difference between the genius who never gets heard and the average Joe who somehow makes it on TV and radio.

So with that said, here’s one of the songs that is up to par. My favorite song off the project and probably the most personal. The situation was brand new so I pretty much came up with the lyrics the night before and then went in the studio and delivered it.

Anyone whoever experienced heartbreak or anything close to it will be able to relate.

I’ll Let Steve Tell It

Some Things Just Are

When it rains it’s not of our doing. None of us caused it to rain. That’s just the way it is. So if one day we were to wake up and say we don’t want rain, there’s really not much we can do about it. We can shut our doors, hide in a dark room, even go to sleep – the rain will remain until the force that put it there decides to stop it.

I keep thinking I’m over Keyshia but everytime I get on the internet I see new pics of her and this guy….Daniel “Boobie” Gibson. Here are some songs that capture how I feel about this whole situation.

Music Mondays:Ms.Keri’s New Video

Keri Hilson is officially my favorite female RnB singer and my newest celebrity crush. Just when I thought she topped herself with the “Turning Me On” video and song, she comes back with another great song and video. This time she teams up with Kanye and Ne-Yo. I think Keri is coming for that number 1 spot.

And fellas, get ready to rewind at the 1:43 mark, WOWZERS!!!

Queen B+Musicals=Greatness

Lots of people seem to not like this woman. Everyones entitled to their opinion. Me personally, I think she’s great and this another example of why. They did a little from Hairspray and a litte from Sound Of Music.
