I love being in studios. Especially ones with creative and energetic people. There’s a certain vibe people give off when they believe in what you’re doing and even if they don’t see the entire vision, they see enough that they want to help you get it out. It’s a great feeling for someone like me who comes from being the only one in the room who sees something and having to generate my own energy from within because everyone else is staring at me like I’m wasting time. It’s easy to believe in yourself AFTER everyone else believes in you, but believing yourself BEFORE everyone else does is the true test. I don’t think that’s grammatically correct — it’s 6AM so pardon me.

I’ve spent less time in actual recording settings than probably any other serious artist on the face of this earth. Just never had the resources or time to be in a studio for hours upon hours. So I will admit that I’m behind the curb as far as familiarity with recording, breath control (as you see in the video above), and things of that nature. If you know anything about me though, I pretty much get a late start on everything in life…..and then I pretty much always catch up…..then I pretty much always keep going.

Means Nothing But Means Everything Part 2

Fall’s leaving, leaves falling
Enter winter, delete autumn
Hope to have a Rolls by Spring
But lately I’m willing to settle for a 3 piece and some rolls, like spring
Cookie cutter industry disguised as fortune
But once unwrapped, it’s just lies and more shit
They say he skip all the parties, aint never gon blow
I say my life’s tailored for my body, can’t rock what the general sew
The land of the fickle, yes they might be fooled here
So I wear masks, stay low, and celebrate Chinese New Year
With the heart of a lion, the eye of a tiger
Can’t make it out the woods, won’t hire a driver
Jesus take the wheel but please keep this Fresh Prince alive and inspired
Take care of my uncles, bring peace to my aunts
Even if they aint the ones that was with me from start
I wish you could bless every girl in the world
So until my young money grows, she won’t stress me for pearls
Princess seems to have her mind on diamonds
Telling me that I should join a mob that’s criming
She act super proper but come from the ghetto
So naturally her mind is on pumps and stiletto’s
I’m from the same place, I just was a rebel
So I send her deep quotes, trynna up her a level
Honest Abe to my moms, Obama to public
With Bush’s paranoia, got my eye on the button
Pockets fluctuating, seen heavy dough though
It’s just when I climb, I fall, like Jenny Lo Lo
But now the falls are leaving
Leaving the falling
Enter the winner
Delete the losses

Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself

June 19th, 2009

For those of you new to this website, my name is Phella. I’m a young guy from right outside of Washington DC. I’m an artist first. I also scout talent for other companies as well as represent a select group of individuals under my company Da Fam Inc. I’ve worked with some names you probably recognize and some that you will recognize sooner or later. Overall I’m just another guy trying to “make it”. Actually I like to think I’ve already “made it”.

The original purpose of this site when I started it a year and a half ago was to make money. That didn’t work. I wasn’t willing to put in the effort it takes to update a website constantly to have a huge following that will attract advertisers. That would mean posting things I don’t quite believe in and one thing I never do is compromise my beliefs. Not for money, not for blog views, music downloads, fame, or anything else. I have lots of thoughts. I’m someone who is always learning and part of that learning is to put stuff out there in the world and see how others feel about it. So far so good.

I thank everyone who frequents the site, especially those that comment on a regular basis. If you look over to the right I have links to a few more places on the net where you can find me. I also have links to several of my friends websites. Most of them think along the same lines as I do so you will find their stuff interesting as well. Once again thanks for coming and stay tuned.

I’m Still Around…

March 31st, 2009

I know I haven’t been blogging like I should be doing. Just got 5 million things going on at once right now. Most of it is good, I just prefer not to talk until they’ve manifested. I’ll be back soon with a whole new look and much more creative content, believe me. Thanks for all the support of this site and all my endeavors.

In the mean time, you can catch me writing a lot on the internets #1 site, ThankGodI’mFamous. I won’t be getting crazy deep like I do on here, it’s not that kind of site. Mostly I’ll be writing sports articles as well as some exclusive interviews and features.

Peace!

Road Rules:ATL Edition

March 21st, 2009

Nobody warned me that the drive from DC to Atlanta would be so gruelling. The first 3 hours were cool, the next 2 were difficult, the last 4 were absolute hell. If you majored in math you know that means 9 hours of driving. The most annoying part is that there was no traffic, I coasted the whole way. At least if there was traffic it would kind of justify how long the trip took.

All was forgotten once I touched down though. The vibe down here is great. The NCAA tournaments are being played here so March Madness is in the air. It could just be the honeymoon phase because it’s my first time down here but I think I’m in love. That natural anger that we have up North (DC/Philly/NY) doesn’t seem to exist here.

As for what I did so far? Got in about 12am and checked into my room then headed out to Sickamore and Rich Hil’s hotel. Rich had a performance which I heard he killed, congrats to him. The Limo’s movement is catching on.

Next up was Don Cannon’s studio where Rich went to work on some Cannon tracks. If you know music you know Cannon is probably top 10 hip-hop producers right now. Lil Scrappy was in there working too. Good to see Scrap on his job, I always thought he was one of the slept on South rappers.

To pass time I decided to dust off the pool skills and show Sick why I’m Kobe Bryant on the tables. We played 7 games and the final result was 4-3, advantage me. It shouldn’t have been that close but they had these walls that kept interfering with my shots. Oh well, I brought the championship home and that’s all that matters.

After the studio it was probably like 3AM and everyone I know down here was knocked out so I decided to retire but not before eating some food that wouldn’t never fly back home. Eating healthy and being on the road don’t go together.

Day 2 should be cool too. Got a few folks that know the ins and outs of the town that have promised to show me what’s what. I’ll blog if any of it is blog worthy.

Sincerely, Bobby Phellantino

Phellito’s Way:True Confessions

November 21st, 2008

It truly is one. Been up and down recently with a lot of things but I think I’m back to “Where I Wanna Be” (No Donell Jones).

Thanks to everyone who helped out, especially Keyshia Cole. That girl’s a rider. If she can put up with that family of hers and still remain positive then we all can put up with anything. Plus she is Beautiful (No Snoop ft. Pharell)

I have a friend who sends me quotes periodically and she was right on time with this one. Almost like she knew what was going on in my mind, here it is:“The thing that makes you exceptional, if you are at all, is inevitably that which makes you lonely. - Lorraine Hansberry”…I Wanna Thank You (No Lil Bow Wow)

So part of what has been bothering me, probably the biggest thing;music. My music in particular. I’ve said before that no matter what I accomplish in this world my music means the most to me. My SITC project, although it got shown love was an epic disaster in my opinion. First off, I had to change a lot of the plans I had for it when I had a falling out with the primary producer on it. That stalled a lot of the momentum I had going and altered a lot of the plans, not to mention wasted money…that’s my bad though for not having the foresight to see that coming.

In addition, I need to quit being so hardheaded. When it comes to my creativity I rarely ever compromise, which is cool if you’re selling music to yourself. But if you want the general public to recognize you then compromise you must. My whole thing is I want to raise the status quo and create change. So I experiment with new sounds and new deliveries and to a person that’s thinking on that level, it connects. To the average person who just wants to hear music, it misses them completely. Once again, my bad.

Will Smith is one of the most intelligent people walking our planet in my opinion. He has the same desire to make change and raise the status quo. He made movies like Men In Black, I Robot, Independence Day, even did Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air..Those weren’t the deepest projects ever but they helped him capture millions of fans worldwide that grew with him. Imagine if he would have started out with Pursuit Of Happyness;he wouldn’t have the following he does today. Imagine if Jay-Z started off with Kingdom Come (actually Reasonable Doubt even went over heads. He had to do dumb it down on Vol.1, 2 and 3 to connect). Imagine if Kanye started off with 808s and Heartbreak; he has a following and he’s being questioned for experimenting. So where does a rookie like me go off saying “ya’ll are gonna listen to what I wanna do and love it…forget the fact that you have a billion other choices”. I did my research and if you go to my imeem, the songs that recieve plays in the thousands are just freestyles. Whenever I get all conceptual it misses the masses and that’s who I want. I appreciate the people who like my deeper stuff but promoting change to people who have already changed is useless. You need to be able to connect with those who are yet to think above the status quo.

My 3 favorite rappers, Pusha T, Joe Budden and AZ have had “decent” careers because they refused to cater to the audience. They stayed stubborn and made what they wanted to make and the public responded by not supporting. When they have met the public halfway, it led to huge success. Pump It Up=Good lyrics+Super Production+Simple Hook. Grindin=Good lyrics+Super Production+Simple Hook. Otherwise they get labeled as “the depressed rapper” or “the cocaine rapper”. Now I’m not advocating dumbing ALL THE WAY DOWN. Never that. The public doesn’t want dumb, they just want simple. They want the medicine in the candy and there’s nothing wrong with that. Once you can give the people what they want without compromising yourself, you got it. That’s Lil Wayne’s success as well as 50’s before he got lazy. So from now on your boy Phell is giving them that Ignorant Sh*t they love. (No Jay-Z)

Other than that, I’ve been working out ten times harder than ever recently. Don’t even know why but it’s been great. I’m at record highs in everything;bench press, push ups, sit ups, running, and everything else. I feel like a boxer training for a fight..except no fight that I know of. (No Rocky)

Stumbled on to some new music and an interview from my old buddy Articulate. He got a lot going on right now so make sure you check him out. One of the hardest working dudes in this here game. Keep On Pushing (No Curtis Mayfield)

Other than that, life is great. Slim’s cd is ill. Beyonce’s cd is flaaaaaaames. Hov seems to be getting in a zone again.

Oh and before I forget, I got my first A&R credit which you can see below. I was ecstatic. Momma I Made It (No Jay-Z)
