I agree. some people go to college with no true aspirations and end up paying $130,000 just to make $30,000 a year and live pay check to pay check instead of actually promote their creativity and challenge themselves. ahhhh…social constructs…they suck ass

Hahaa Simone, always with the clever and the funny. You do learn a lot of life lessons and about different types of people…that I won’t argue. As for actual knowledge,I think most people can save themselves the $30,000 a year and go to Google.com for free. But like you said it’s more of a formality.

Undergrad wasnt a choice for me. It was expected and it was being paid for so I didn’t really have any complaints beforehand. I actually really wanted to go. But it isnt until now that I’m realizing just how unprepared I am for the things that are being thrown my way, simply because they weren’t in the textbook. It bothers me sometimes but I honestly think that, especially in journalism… college is more of a formality than it is a knowledge boost. Ask me what I remember most about the experience and I’ll tell you: “Everybody is NOT your friend”. But if you want to know about speech disorders and the first television station to air the whatchamacallit on the thingie, I’ll be giving you the blank stare. Then I’ll change the topic to something like food. Why? Because I’m hungry right now. :]

Yeah i’m gonna have to paraphase Kanye (post College Dropout) on that issue. “You use school, don’t let it use you.” It’s all about the individual. For the people that love the college life (for whatever reason), they would be using the school to the fullest. That also goes for people who feel like they have to like it (elder pressure). For the people that didn’t like it as much and felt like universities are just big businesses (I included), we’ll feel like school is using us. So that’s where the non-conformity starts…which is sometimes a great way to know what you really want. Everyone’s different.
