Goodbye to another great show that influenced most of us coming up. MTV put Total Request Live to bed for good today. I’m starting to wonder what’s left to launch new talent????? I’ll admit I haven’t watched too much in the last 3 years or so but I was an addict during the Carson Daly era. That was when Eminem first started poppin.
People like Destinys Child, J.Lo/Ja Rule, Hardknock Life era Jay-Z, and Puff post-Biggie owe a great deal of their success to TRL.
I think TRL is what really started branding artsist as more than just musicians. Prior to TRL I would just watch videos and know that the person made music. The TRL VJ’s would always ask personal questions that really got into who they were outside of the music.
Another thing TRL did for me was introduce me to pop culture as we know it now. In my area it was never cool to listen to pop music until TRL. They made it acceptable to listen to Pink, Limp Bizkit, Britney Spears and those types of acts.
One of my favorite moments I remember off top is when Eminem came on and almost started crying. In his book he said that was the first time that stardom really hit him and he just couldn’t hold it in.
Another one is when Jay-Z and Beyonce performed Bonnie And Clyde for the first time.
Diddy holds the record for being on the show the most. 38 times. No one can question the mans desire for camera time.
More Highlights I just Remembered: When Ludacris first came on the scene with “Whats Your Fantasy”…When Nelly used to have a hit song/video every month….When 50 first came through with “In Da Club”
And everyone else who sent myspace msgs, facebook msgs, texts etc..
Since I started recording music in high school I’ve always had the fortune of connecting with people…you’ll be surpised how many say “yo im going through the same exact thing” or “that song really inspired me”.
The Insomniaks are a duo out of Cali that believe in two things;making good music and never sleeping. My last 48 hours confirms my belief in both theories. They are the latest to be featured on Sickamore’s Future Hall Of Famers article on HipHopGame. Check it out, check them out.
I’m like a lil kid on Christmas. Thanks to everyone that anticipated this and I hope it lives up to expactations.
Been up for 24 hours straight trying to get this mixed and mastered to make the November 14th deadline I set for myself. Hope you enjoy it. It’s 5am and it sounds good to this old tired man so I’m imagining young fresh ears will LOVE IT.
As with any other artist, I take seriously what I do so please don’t hesitate to leave feedback. Even if it’s anonymous. I’ll be breaking down the meaning of each song much later on in the day when I wake up, if I sleep.
The lyrics to that Freddie Jackson song define my relationship with Ms.Cole
Have You Ever Loved Somebody-Freddie Jackson You keep running, running away I know you can’t run forever You think you’re heading for a heartbreak again Just as you did before
I can teach you how to love again If you just trust in me I can show you things you never seen You don’t know how…
In honor of her show returning to TV tonight. Besides the NBA I haven’t had a reason to watch TV in a while until this.
*Sidebar:Did you know Freddie Jackson was born on stage at the Apollo? his mom was a singer and went into labor while performing…..he had no choice but to be a singer after that.
Let It Go Complaining about the record industry, mainstream music, cd sales etc is old and should give way to enjoying the great records that are put out and the ability of mainstream music to connect with members of society that don’t always want to think and get lost in a lyrical maze…sometimes all I want is some hard drums and lyrics as simple as “she got a donk”…other times want Lupe’s “Dumb It Down”.
Hovi Hov Jay-Z=The First Person to chase the cool and catch it. That man would bribe a cop if he knew it would earn him more cool points. “They love you Jigga, they love you jigga….Hova Hova Hova”.
The Coolest-Elect Barack Obama=The first cool person to be equally embraced by the anti-cool. Usually cool people are resented by those who force themselves to be outcasts and not go with the status quo…in Baracks case, it seems he’s drawn in the hip as well as the not so hip. After all, the only thing that separates the two groups is ones ability to play on public perception.
I Can’t Do The Homie
You may not want to read this next one if you subscribe to MOB/don’t love these hoes/I’ll rather bump chest in the vip with my homies…or any of those other groups that no love gettas subscribe to.
But I Will Congratulate The Ladies I’m starting to agree that women are one of the greatest gifts we have in this world. Not just for the obvious reasons but there’s something about the hard working and intelligent ones with the right mixture of confidence and humility. It almost erases the sins of their counterparts that drove most of my brothers to do the homie. Top Two “Trickin Anthems”
Chill Jennifer Hudsons sister is not doing a good job of defusing peoples suspicions of her. Myspace pics of celebration ain’t really the way to go two weeks after your whole family was offed by your ex-boyfriend.
Chill pt 2 Hope I don’t offend anyone but Club Promoters=The New Version Of Myspace Rappers. Everyone does it and they’re mad annoying. This doesnt apply to actual artists that use myspace as a platform to reach fans and potential fans. Also doesn’t apply to club promoters who actually work hard and believe in the establishment they’re promoting. If you rap and harrass folks on myspace as a get rich/famous quick scheme then kill yourself. If you promote some rich mans club who doesn’t pay you a dollar just so you can pick up desperate teenage girls that want VIP access, join the myspace rapper and kill yourself too.
New Motown I’ve been very quiet recently as for as my personal music goes. All for good reason, trust me. I’m working harder than ever on something I’ve been planning since I was young. The New Motown is myself along with a ton of RnB singers, a few rappers, couple of producers and live bands whose purpose in life is to make the best possible music we can make. Sales, radio play, commercial opportunities are welcome but not mandatory. The only thing mandatory is a commitment to making hits and classic music……Stay tuned.
Trynna Advance My Quotes I keep a bunch of quotes in my phone from movies, books, songs, etc. Stumbled on to this one yesterday: “Excessively self-conscious people are condemned to permanent exclusion from enjoyment”
Translation:Be yourself, be free, forget what anyone thinks, enjoy life.
"Soon silence will have passed into legend. Man has turned his back on silence. Day after day he invents machines and devices that increase noise and distract humanity from the essence of life, contemplation, meditation... tooting, howling, screeching, booming, crashing, whistling, grinding, and trilling bolster his ego. His anxiety subsides. His inhuman void spreads monstrously like a gray vegetation."
