It Was All Good Just A Week Ago

November 30th, 2008

Actually it was all good 6 months ago. Just rummaging through some old youtubes and found this video from June. 95% of the people in the video don’t deal with one another for different reasons…smh. We could have had a dynasty.

Cleaning Out My Closet

November 30th, 2008

December is looking like a crazy month, not sure yet if it’s crazy in a good way or crazy in a bad way. That’s why you play the game though right? for the unkown factor. I know regardless of what happens, nothing can top the craziness (in a bad way) of last December.

Anyway, just wanted to post a couple random things real quick to close out November.

Shout out to everyone who posted the music on their respective sites/blogs/pages, including the latest For The DMV Only.

BIG BIG Shout to AOL. Somehow they found my ichat video with Barack Obama and posted it. That was crazy.

I gave in to peer pressure and re-edited my epk, video trailer, whatever you want to call it. The consensus was that no one cares about 10 mins of Phella, so I gave ya’ll 2 mins and 30 seconds….happy? It’s right under the Kobe video on the right side of this blog. A photographer once told me that as creative minds we tend to love ALL of our work but you have to be willing to compromise and meet your audience half way. He said if Steven Spielberg edited his movies according to his own taste, they would be 60 hours long. But since he wants millions to go watch it in the theaters, he gets input from several people who aren’t as attached to the film.

Tomorrow around noon we will be releasing the much anticipated Colin Munroe Unsung Hero mixtape. “Im like a child waiting for a gift”-Jay-Z (Lost Ones)

I just noticed that in the business world, no response=no. I’m not used to being told no and I doubt I’ll ever adjust, and I definitely will never adjust to not getting a response…”that attitude of yours gon get you hurt one of these days”-Somebody when I was younger

I’m not eating any sugar for 32 days (Nov 29th to Dec 31st). You can’t completely avoid sugar but I’m cutting down drastically. Not drinking vitamin water might kill me. It’s not for weight loss or nothing like that, just a challenge to push myself. I’ve been addicted to sweet stuff since a kid so I figure if I can break my sugar addiction, there’s nothing I can’t do….WISH ME LUCK, I need it.

Got real honest with a few people this weekend. Like real honest. Like told people how I really feel type stuff. I never do that, and probably never will again. Too risky

Good luck and much success to everyone in December. Let’s close the year out strong.

Phellito’s Way:Thanksgiving Rambling

November 26th, 2008

I was gonna do some long OD blog about everything and everyone I’m thankful for. That’s not always the best idea in this unstable world we live in so ima chill. Hopefully people know who they are…and also, I hope someone out here is thankful for your boy. If ain’t nobody thankful for ya, then………………..

That’s enough for now. As for the festivities it seems like this will be a chill year. First time I can remember in a long while that moms won’t be cooking. We’re going the catered route this year. I’m 50/50 bout that but we’ll see how it goes.

I’m probably the only person that watches more basketball as opposed to football on Thanksgiving. I mean, I’ll glance at the football game from time to time but there’s nothing better than throwing down and watching some good old fashion hoops late Thursday night.

Can’t wait till I get my money right…….cuz I’m going to encourage my family to go to homeless shelters every thanksgiving and donate time and food to the less fortunate. You don’t need to be rich to do that, but I’m an extremist (can’t do something halfway). I wanna show up with enough food for the whole place that will carry over to Christmas.

All the clubs in the DC area will be popping this weekend but I doubt you’ll catch me in one. This long weekend will serve as reflection time. I just wanna chill with the fam and enjoy life…no gym, limited cell phone, etc.

If you have any longstanding traditions or any crazy Thanksgiving stories, feel free to share. Other than that……I’m outta here.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Coat Check

November 24th, 2008

On my way to donate some coats and jackets, then I got to thinking. What was I on back in the day? If you got any funny coats in your history (which we all do) then this is the place to share and/or discuss. My readers are too cool for school so I doubt that’ll happen, so once again I’ll sacrifice myself.

That first leather debauchery was me attempting to get the Jigga look from the “Do It Again (Put Yo Hands Up)” video. The leather plus Yankee hat combo was too ill for me not to imitate. Only problem? We couldn’t afford Avirex or any of the expensive leathers so I took what I had to the arab store and got this disgusting grey leather with a Yankee and some jeans. I think everything came to like $75.
That leather gave me a headache (literally) everytime I wore it. It hand this strong paint smell that would go straight to my head and have me searching for the nearest tylenol.

The second joint was actually not a disaster. I was the first to pull off State Prop. Maybe it’s cuz I wasn’t going for anyone else’s look. I just saw a nice jacket and bought it. Got me plenty of play. Honestly I would still rock it right now if it didn’t say State Property on the outside. These days I like logos to be secret.

I have worse coat skeletons in my closet but I can’t share the rest….no sir.

*Sidebar:From S.Dots, to cheap leathers, to State Propery Jackets; Roc-A-Fella really influenced the hell outta my upbringing. Half of my decisions from age 11-16 where based on what I thought Roc-A-Fella artists would do.

November 23rd, 2008

Yo I was in tears laughing at this dude. It really can’t be that serious, or maybe it can. I remember when I was in college we would play 2K till 6a.m. but I don’t ever remember anybody doing this.

Dribbled Down In VA

November 23rd, 2008

I was down in the 7 cities for a while on Friday. Went to Hampton to catch up with some folks and also to Norfolk for the launch of the Clipses new clothing line, Play Cloths.

Malice wasn’t there but Pusha was hanging out, along with producer Nottz (50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Trey Songz) and the legendary A&R Hip-Hop (Jay-Z, Kanye West, The Clipse).

It was mad cold in there and filled with hipsters but all in all it was cool. The Play Cloths line is fresh and looks like it’s going to pop off. Congrats to Push and Mal. I’m looking forward to the new music.

Pusha-T and Vel (the next act I’m developing through The Famous Firm. Be on the lookout for him.)
