September 11th With Jigga And Yeezy

I know a lot of people probably see this day as a bad day and it was a bad one. For all those who lost someone or were affected, I send my heart out to ya.

On the musical side of things however, September 11th has changed my life TWICE. Two of my top 5 most influential and life changing albums came out on this day as well.

I had an ode to Kanye’s Graduation as my name on Blackberry Messenger and then Sean of The Famous Firm brought it to my attention that Jay-Z’s Blueprint came out on this same day.

If you want even more irony-Jay-Z’s vocals from the 1st song on Blueprint was sampled on the 1st song on Graduation. Spooky huh???

September 11, 2001: A young Phella walks into Circuit City with his father after many years of “Momma loved me, Pop left me”. Pops offers to buy anything in the store. Young Phell sees this Blue album, picks it up as well as a portable cd player. Pops pays for it. Phella goes home and listens. His life was changed forever.

September 11, 2007: 9 months after dropping out of college, Phella has finally put it past him and moved on to bigger and better things. In a sense, he “graduated” mentally. Himself and Sakwe of The Famous Firm go to Circuit City searching for the latest Kanye West release. We pick up two copies, hop in Sakwe’s Cheverolet Impala, marvel at the artwork and commence to listen. Phella likes what he hears so much that after being dropped off, he hops in his Cheverolet Impala and pops the cd in again and just rides through DC. Life changed forever again.

Phashion Week…Or Month…Or Whatever

In honor of Fashion week or month or whatever’s going on I decided to seek help. I’ve never been one of these super-duper hipster-cool-quasi-if-it-came-out-last-week-I-consider-it-old type of people. No offense to those that are, it’s cool…fashion is your thing.

Don’t get me wrong, I like to get and look nice and like it when others do the same. I just don’t get caught up in trends anymore. Fads fade out too quickly for me and I like to set trends as opposed to setting them.

Now with all that said I’ve decided to catch up on whats cool from a few other bloggers who do a better job than I do in the fashion realm. All in honor of fashion week or month, or whatever is going on right now. Enjoy and feel free to chime in.

Last year I saw this Usher special where he brought Beyonce out and basically had a rendezvous on stage with her. I thought to myself, “damn Hov needs to control his chick man, this is no good”.

Then today a friend of mine was telling me about an episode of Christina’s Court she watched earlier. The case was pretty much about a man who married a centerfold and then grew to dislike and dissaprove of her profession. When he saw the poses she was doing and the outfits she wore, he would become furious and big fights would ensue.

The question my friend posed to me is simple: Can a guy realistically be with a woman who has a career that involves her revealing herself whether partially or fully? Can it workout long term or will he eventually grow tired like the guy from Christina’s Court?

Now everyone who knows me knows I have a slight obsession for Bria Myles. If I marry her, would I be comfortable with the kind of magazines she does? the answer is nope!!!!!! Hell nah I won’t. This aint Pretty Woman. I might catch some heat for this and be called a hypocrite but I happen to be a man with pride. I’ve seen to many dudes lose going this route. Can’t have dudes singing “I Love Your Girl” wherever we go.

The big excuse is usually that “you knew what I did when you met me”. My answer is simply “I didn’t know we would get married when I met you. Now please change your ways. Thanks”

2008 VMA’s Will Be Phellavised

8pm: They are starting the pregame show. Off top the setup looks better than in previous years. They’ve got a helicopter and everything. Keri Hilson still equals a poor mans Alicia Keys to me.

8:04pm: It’s the KING patna…T.I is gonna be everywhere tonight, “Paper Trail” promotion in full effect. If Shawty Lo is there then “IT MUST BE TWO SIDES”

8:15pm: T-Pain coming out with his own circus. An elephant with a T-Pain chain. It’s obvious that the record companies are going all out to use this show to promote 4th quarter releases…..smart move.

8:35pm: Americans Best Dance contest or something going on outside. Lupe rooting for the Chinese crew. No surprise there. Dude’s obsessed with Tokyo.

8:45pm: Kobe in the building!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully this is the last public outing before the season. We cant lose to Boston again.

8:51pm:Stupid announcer asking Kobe if he’s a Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus fan in front of his wife. Some people just can’t let Eagle, Colorado go.

8:54: Thick Ciara of old>This New Skeleton Ciara

9:07pm: Rihanna kicking things off. Pretty wack if you ask me. The usual dominatrix gear and mediocre singing I’ve come to expect from her.

9:10pm: Weezy’s lip ring=a lil “how you doing” in my opinion.

9:19pm: Britney Spears won female video of the year. She seems normal again. All is right with the world.

9:23pm: Updating people of whats coming on during commercials=DOPE!!!! Unfortunately ESPN has been on to this for a year.

9:31pm: The virgi….I mean Jonas Brothers performance. Nothing too crazy. Just a safe and protected performance.

9:35pm: Katy Perry might be the new object of my affection

9:39pm: Katy Perry IS the new object of my affection

9:43pm:Lil Wayne performance with Leona Lewis. The usual Wayne performance. Very energetic, lots of bleeps etc.

9:50pm:Pussycat Dolls win best dance video. Nicole Shdahuwhroasriojojaow looking good as ever.

9:58pm: SMH @ the host flirting with Kobe. Last thing we need before the season is some wild rumors

10:12pm:Pink performing. Crazy setup she has. Explosions and everything. Like a movie almost. Nice performance.

10:16pm: I’m starting to feel sleepy and lose interest in this show. Wack host+subpar performances+everything seems slightly off from the music to the presenters. Bout to throw in the towel if things dont pick up soon.

10:24pm: MCLOVIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10:25pm:MJB nominated for best hip hop video??????? Wayne won. Congrats

10:26pm:ITS THE KING PATNA…T.I.P performing “Whatever You Like”…this girl in the pink=WOW. the car=WOWZERS

10:29pm:Rihanna reminds me of that Russian chick from Rocky 2. New T.I song with her is FLAMESSSSSSSS

10:50pm: LL Cool j is selling clothes at Sears and still performing and saying things like “Let me hear you screeeeeaaaam” and “somebody say hooooo”

10:52pm: Paris in pink=the opposite of the T.I chick in pink….Michael Phelps obviously needs sleep…Lupe’s jacket game>Michael Jacksons jacket game

10:55pm: Wondering why I didnt just tune in at the end. Kobe and Kanye to close out the show. Kob should spit one of those wack verses from his cd. I wonder what YE will perform…maybe the new song thats supposed to come out tomorrow?

11:02pm: Kid Rock still being alive is good news. AInt heard from him in a while. Performing with Wayne. Weezys lip ring + tight red pants=”how you doing”…the song is nice though.

11:11pm: Kobe presenting…I hope a white girl doesnt win for his sake….DAMN…nevermind…Britney got it, even Chris Brown was laughing

1114pm: Kanye performing this craaaaaaaaaaaacccccckkkk. Mr.West saving the show. Cant wait for mp3 of this tomorrow. He’s not even rapping anymore

Call Me An Old Head But….I’m Watching TV Again

I literally haven’t watched Television in 2008. Too wack, too time consuming, too repetitive, too reality based etc……

Well all that came to a screeching hault this week. The idiot box was calling and calling me. Finally I turned it on and guess what I found? Good programming. If anyone has some recommendations send my way (I heard that Screenwriter show on Bravo was nice, might have to check it).

They’re bringing back all the greats, via re-runs or via spin offs.


Smart Guy on BET-This is one of my all time favorites. I think it only aired for like 2 or 3 seasons but this show was the business. Every 5:30pm after school I was glued.

90210 on the CW-I never really paid attention to the original. I was too young, but all my older cousins were obsessed. I feel them now. One episode into the season and I think I might be watching some more.

Living Single on TV One-Another classic. One of the few sitcoms besides Martin that actually made me laugh. Most of em I just watch for entertainment value, but this was a rib breaker.

Making The Band on MTV-I just like D Woods and Aubrey. Something about those two ladies. Puff is always gonna do or say something funny. And the dudes on here are comedy too….they’re way too dramatic and a lil “how you doing” sometimes. This new one will never compare to the seasons with Fred, Chopper, Babs and Ness but it’ll do.

*sidenote: Am I the only one who watched all the shows set in high schools and thought thats how it really would be? Only to go to school and its nowhere close to what you saw on tv, I still haven’t gotten over the dissapointment.

*sidenote 2:Watching TV shouldn’t cause productivity in any aspect of life to drop off…if anyone who knows me notices even the slightest slip up, please come and destroy my idiot box

I’ve been rummaging through the crates lately and finding a lot of good RnB music. We’re so quick to jump on artists during downslides like in 2007 and early 2008. There’s been a lot of good music coming out recently and I feel it’s worth mentioning. Even my mom said something about it yesterday.

SOONER OR LATER….

Sooner Or Later – N*E*R*D

The song explains it all. Every summer at least one really really bad thing has to happen to me. Nothing happened this summer until today.

The saddest part of all this is that I’m not even a phone person. I talk about business briefly and hang up. They said “rollover expired, 900 minutes ran out, and blah blah…would you like to pay by credit or check?”….I just wanted to get my HOW CAN SHE SLAP on.

Update:This was a result of errors on At&T’s part as well as mine. We slugged it out and I only have to pay about $700 which is a lot more reasonable than $2300.

Moral of the story=Don’t settle for injustice.

I’ll be gladly accepting all texts, emails and bbms for the rest of the year, but please no phone calls. Thanks everyone for your support through this very trying time.

We’re all taught early in the game not to hit girls or hit women. Occassionally a guy can be caught off guard and his reflexes just takeover. I’m not condoning any kind of abuse towards women but the chick was way out line and got her come uppings.
