Just got back in from NYC this morning. Another great trip in the bag. Video blog coming soon.
Went to an area called DUMBO (Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass???)I’m pretty sure thats wrong but it’s close…I hope. Very artsy make you wanna take a million pics type of area. Waterside, great view of the bridge, rooftops etc.
The amount of Maybachs and Bentleys I see in NY never gets old. Not even on some super materialistic stuff but New York just epitomizes grind and hustle to me. To see so many people thriving is always an inspiration. Vending Machines that take credit cards??? Owwwww.
After a brief meeting in the lobby between “Young Scratch Mag” and a group called Command Radio, the Famous Firm photoshoot at Asylum was underway. 90% of the team was there. Got some video footage that if released will officially turn us into Death Row Records in it’s prime. As for the shoot itself it went great.
Everyone just tried to avoid taking pics like this:
The bauce in 05 Scratch Magazine…….props to Sakwe for cleaning out his closet and finding this timeless spread.
The shoot ended and I kicked it in the city for a bit with Sakwe, Sean, Capital C, Nisarg and Sterling. Fun times minus the 3 hours it took us to decide on where to eat…I’m not exaggerating.
I was held hostage for 4 hours by the Keyshia Cole killer (Coming to BET this fall)..more on that in the video blog.
Slept at a rest stop for 30 minutes to avoid swerving on the road.
Last night someone told me that “change was impossible”, “one person can’t change anything”, the person said “if you can’t beat em join them” and some other negative things I can’t remember.
I just thought to myself “I’m glad I didn’t consult with you 6 months ago, I would have never acheived anything.
6 months ago, on February 11, 2008 I stood in a line for 3 hours in 20 degree temperature to hear Barack Obama deliver one of his infamous speeches. I had watched almost all the ones on TV but I knew that it would be much more effective in person. And it was. That speech was hands down the most inspirational thing that ever happened to me.
Fresh off of my Obama speech I stumbled into an article on HipHopGame (which I checked religiously) that detailed Sickamore’s resignation from Atlantic records and his plans to start up “The Famous Firm”. I took the inspiration from the Obama speech + the content of that article and decided to control my own destiny. Two weeks later on February 25, 2008 I was headed to NY without telling anyone. Just gassed up with my last couple of dollars and went there. I had a meeting with Sickamore and The Famous Firm (in its early stages).
Two weeks after that I was a junior rep for the company, a month after that I was a regional rep, a month after that I was a senior rep and now I Am Phella. This site is going good (thanks to you), youtube.com/firmtv is a fan favorite, the people that I rep on The Firm have developed and experienced success (due mostly to their own hard work),and myspace.com/dafirmsphella is finally on point. Even my music which I rarely mention (perfectionist syndrome) has caught on.
Moral of the story is don’t listen to people. Do what you feel is right and watch the rest fall in line. By the way, the song at the top of this blog was recorded in early 2007..can you say foresight.
For those who aren’t hip to this story, I’ll brief you. For years Fox News has been accused of reporting news from a biased perspective despite promoting that they are “fair and balanced”. In this video it is revealed that The White House has fed FOX with talking points that would favor the government, especially on important issues.
The picture above is from the movie “I Am Legend” starring Will Smith. In the film, Will’s character is dedicated to finding a vaccine to cure a disease that affected billions of people. These people used to be human but after a while they became aggressive blood thirsty zombies that act without any sort of rational.
In the entertainment industry, and the world we live in, I feel like Will’s character every single day. I see the way people act and I feel it can be cured so I dedicated my music and this blog to helping find the cure.
That’s the purpose of the pic above and the blog you are reading. I’m not a Soulja Boy hater or a victim of the-man-got-to-me-at-work-today-ness. Just a rapper/talent rep with free time, why not fix the world??? no blashphemy.
